Since the new train and bus schedule of 11. December 2016, our own developed TAG (Tunnelautomatik Gotthard) Software in the Gotthard base tunnel is successfully in operation. Daily 50 new passenger trains and 210, unlike 160 until now, freight trains drive through the century tunnel.

Our Software in the Lötschberg tunnel is also successfully in commercial operation. During the peaked season there will be 10'000 vehicles daily on the car transport trains, through the tunnel transported. In order to guarantee a smooth operation our software is constantly being renewed and expanded.
At the “sti-event“ 2016 the systransis team went to Zurich. There they followed up with an exciting scavenger hunt organized by Foxtrail. The team had to follow green hints until the goal was eventually reached.
Later on they continued with cooking lessons at Jane's Finefood. Everyone was doing work and in the late evening there was a delicious meal with partners.
On 1 June 2016 the Gotthard Base Tunnel opened (57 km – worlds longest tunnel). This revolutionary tunnel brings North and South closer together.
New rolling stock, more frequent and faster connections also ensure more trains on the north-south axis and the freight gets a real performance boost.
It is self-explanatory, that security is he key element in such a tunnel in which 200 trains drive up to 250 km/h. The tunnel tubes are connected with cross passages every 300 meters to which train passengers can escape in case of fire. In both emergency stops, each 600-meter long and located per tunnel tube, an evacuation up to 1000 people is possible.
Systransis AG contributed the Tunnel Automatic Gotthard (TAG), a component of the Train Traffic Control System (containing TAG and Iltis). TAG controls the trains by means of safety-critical systems in which an additional direct process interface to the disposition system exists. It increases the safety of the daily operation by monitoring and controlling train movements permanently. In the event of an incident it automatically stabilizes the situation.

Dr. Xiaolu Rao thesis „Holistic rail network operation by integration of train automation and traffic management“ proposes a new rail optimisation model by integration of two optimisation methods: traffic management and train automation.
The 3rd International Symposium on Railway Operations Research was held on November 20th -21st at Beijing Jiaotong University. Dr. Xiaolu Rao was invited as the speaker to give a presentation about “Holistic rail network operation by integration of train automation and traffic management”.
This year’s “sti-event” took place in the mountains. During the team’s stay at the chalet of Ibergeregg the traditional card game “ Jassen” was practised and no PC was needed. The cohesion was strengthened during the hike to the peak of Gross Mythen and the rope park the next day.
At the end the entire team met with their partners in the beautiful town of Küssnacht to enjoy fine dining with great view on the lake in the evening.

Those who have not been inside the tunnel before where surprised by the warm temperature (around 30 degrees) and high security standards. After that the ATG-team arranged a trip to the operations centre, called Centro Esercizio Pollegio (CEP) and the info centre of ATG close to the south portal of the Gotthard Base Tunnel (GBT),and to Pollegio. The traffic control of the future flat rail route oft he GBT is being held here as well as the implemented software TAG created by systransis.
